Lisa attended Colgate University where she majored in Art and Art History with a concentration in Studio Art.  During her matriculation, she spent time studying in Florence, Italy, where she attended SACI (Studio Art Centers International).  Lisa graduated with Honors from Colgate University in 2006.  She was then invited to enroll in Maryland Institute College of Art's prestigious Post-Baccalaureate program where she concentrated in painting.  She successfully completed this program in 2007. Lisa is a many passioned soul.  After her time at MICA, she took a break from art to focus on her other passions to include physical fitness and violin performance.  She spent time as a personal trainer and a CrossFit instructor.  She has a long love for sports and is currently a competitive Olympic Weightlifter.  Lisa reconnected with her artistic self nine years after she left art school when she started doing makeup art.  She created Yellowshadows as a contrast of her favorite color, yellow, and her interest in the artistic macabre.  The color yellow is in direct contrast to the absence of light in shadows.  Merged together they are confusing and a representation of the concept that some things are not meant to be understood, only appreciated for what they are. Lisa adopted her dog, Alonzo, in the winter of 2018, and he has changed her life. Shortly after his adoption, Lisa began volunteering and fostering with Alonzo's rescue group, HART90. In the fall of 2018, she quit her job of 10yrs to pursue a career working with dogs.  Since she left her job, some of her friends and family requested her artistic skills to create portraits of their pets. Through the process, Lisa discovered her favorite subject matter of all, pets! Lisa finds the process of drawing your pet very special.  Capturing each animal's individuality and personality for a family to enjoy forever brings her great meaning and joy. Her mediums of choice are graphite and oil pastels.

I teach high school Social Studies and Personal Finance in Fairfax County Public Schools.  I have been creating sidewalk chalk art for a few years.  I do not really have a common theme in my work, I just like chalking on the ground and showing the world what I can do.  Chalk art is fun and helps me to de-stress.  I also enjoy running, reading, and the occasional video games.  I like to do a lot of my work under the bridge at Jones Point Park and hope to inspire more people to try their hands at chalk art.  When I work, I like to listen to trance/electronic music...music helps me to focus my attention on my work.

Beatrice's passion is street art and the many pleasures and opportunities to meet and connect with people at chalk festivals. Chalking outdoors is a form of performance art and large scale drawings allow the public to connect with the art and the artist. Beatrice continues to attend numerous chalk events in the Southeast and is now expending to other areas of the country.

I’m mostly a self-taught artist.  I re-discovered my inner artist 3 years ago with one drawing class.  I do bookkeeping and accounting for small businesses and non-profits for my profession.  Art is fun, learning and a challenge for me.  If it brings a smile to someone else then it’s great.
